ABSTRACT

Purpose: This study aimed to identify and understand challenges to inform new strategies to increase the COVID‐19 vaccination rate according to involved vaccinators' perspectives in Belitung, Indonesia. Design A qualitative descriptive study design was used. Methods: Online interviews and chatting were done among 11 vaccinators for data collection between August 2021 and January 2022. Data were analyzed using a content analysis model. Findings Four main themes emerged, including (1) communication strategies (evidence‐based, electronic‐based, and culturally based communication), (2) cross‐sectoral strategies (collaboration with police, religious leaders, customary leaders, heads of village divisions, and non‐governmental organizations), (3) "picking‐up the ball" system (home visits for elderly and people with disability and school visits for children), and (4) setting‐up priorities (between mandatory vaccines and boosters). Conclusion: Despite making vaccination mandatory, the roles of communication, cross‐sectoral innovations, "picking‐up the ball" system, and priority setting may have useful potential to improve vaccination rates. Clinical Relevance: The findings may serve as an input to overcome challenges and accelerate the vaccination coverage in Indonesia and beyond. However, further research is needed.

ABSTRACT

AIM: The aim of this study was to understand the lived experience of altruism and sacrifices among Swedish nurses working in intensive care units (ICU) during the COVID-19 pandemic. DESIGN: This was a descriptive phenomenological study. METHODS: The study was conducted between June 2020 and March 2021 and included 20 nurses who were directly involved in the ICU care of COVID-19 patients in Sweden during the pandemic. The text transcripts were analysed using Malterud's Systematic Text Condensation. FINDINGS: The analysis revealed four themes. The work situation changed from 1 day to another-the nurses were brutally confronted with a new and highly demanding situation. Adapting to the chaotic situation-despite fear, anguish and exhaustion, the nurses adapted to the new premises. They shouldered the moral responsibility and responded to the needs of the patients and the health care system since they had the competence. Being confronted with ethical and moral challenges-the nurses were overwhelmed by feelings of helplessness and inadequacy because despite how hard they worked, they were still unable to provide care with dignity and of acceptable quality. The importance of supporting each other-collegiality was fundamental to the nurses' ability to cope with the situation. CONCLUSIONS: Taken together, being exposed to a constantly changing situation, facing the anguish and misery of patients, families, and colleagues, and being confronted with a conflict between the moral obligation to provide care of high quality and the possibility to fulfil this commitment resulted in suffering among the nurses. Collegial back-up and a supportive culture within the caring team were important for the nurses' endurance. IMPACT: The study contributes an understanding of nurses' lived experience of working during the COVID-19 pandemic and highlights the importance of protecting and preparing nurses and nursing organisation for potential future crises.

ABSTRACT

Stress is a component of students' lives, and it can impair their ability to manage the academic rigours of college life. Their regular labour presents numerous obstacles, resulting in tension. Several studies indicate that there is an immediate need to analyse the influence of the present pandemic scenario on the mental health and well-being of students, which justifies conducting such research in multiple Indian states, including Maharashtra. Purpose of the study: The purpose of the study was to determine the prevalence of depression among patients with chronic renal disease and the relationship between depression prevalence and chosen sociodemographic characteristics. 300 nursing students were enrolled in the current study. It was a descriptive cross-sectional study design. In this investigation, a convenient sampling strategy was adopted. The research was conducted at the Karad Krishna Institute of Nursing Sciences. Utilizing the perceived stress scale, the depression was evaluated. Using descriptive and inferential statistics, the acquired data were evaluated and analysed.56.66% of the students in the present study had moderate stress, 26.33 % had high stress, and only 17% of the participants had a low stress level. The data indicate that nursing students had a moderate amount of stress due to the covid scenario. Copyright © 2022 Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

A recent insight into the attributes of beauty is used to show its relations to nursing science and its theories and paradigms. It is indicated how insight into beauty came from energyspirit perceptions-experiences of feelings from art objects. Rogers and her science of unitary human beings are viewed from the attributes of beauty. It is recommended nursing consider beauty as a concept for the advancement of nursing science.
